After watching the videos and reading the Ebert piece, I was surprised by how just how much the editing process changes how a video/film is experienced by the viewer. It makes perfect sense, but I had never given it the consideration that this assignment asked of me. Now I feel that I will not be able to view film the same, ever again. The assignment required that this tie somehow with our theme, and I thought what better way to tie in, than to review an episode of the Joy of Painting. Since this program is 30 minutes or so, I only recorded a short portion of it, but I definitely picked up on some editing techniques that were brought up in the video I watched. For example, how the camera moves from the wide shot of the canvas to the close up shots of the palette. I also noticed how the background of the set was black, so that the only objects/colors/subjects you notice are Bob and his supplies.
